Cliffs, Flamborough Head

I've just added this to my etsy shop - the finished version of my painting, which I started a while ago, of the Flamborough Head cliffs at the north end of the little bay by the lighthouse. This is a memory of a soft day in early spring, when the chalk cliffs glowed in the sunlight. The tide was out and I spent some time photographing kittiwakes nesting on these cliffs, and taking close-up shots of the rock surfaces, which may be useful for future abstract paintings.

Work in progress - Flamborough Head

I've just started this view of the chalk cliffs at Flamborough Head. I was fascinated by the shapes and colours of the areas of leafless brambles on the clifftops on a fine very early spring day. There were lots of interesting umber and violety colours, and the brambly areas actually looked soft and 'furry'. I hope this works out as intended! At the moment just roughing out areas of colour (acrylic).
This is a couple of miles along from the Bempton Cliffs featured in an earlier post (http://azuredayart.blogspot.com/2011/01/bempton-cliffs.html), and is the left-hand side of the bay whereas my ink drawing shows the right-hand side (http://azuredayart.blogspot.com/2010/11/flamborough-head.html).

Flamborough Head

My latest - an indian ink drawing giving an impression of the cliffs and foreshore at Flamborough Head in Yorkshire. The cliffs have been eroded into fantastic shapes and from the sea look like a herd of elephants with huge legs (must do a drawing of that).
