Spring hilltop

The hilltop skyline and Hunting Tower at Chatsworth, seen on a fresh spring day. I thought a long horizontal format (8 x 16 inches) would be useful for this oil painting, which shows soft grey clouds sailing past. The trees are just starting to show some spring colour.
The Hunting Tower was constructed in the 1580s for Bess of Hardwick, as a summerhouse and possibly for the ladies to view hunting in the park at the foot of the hill (though it does seem to be a long way from the flat riverside area).

Luxembourg Gardens, Paris

It was a cold gloomy day on Sunday so I spent some time painting a sunny day in Paris. This is the scene in the Luxembourg Gardens in July - the big tubs with oleanders and pomegranate trees are out, the flowers look gorgeous, the trees are backlit by dazzling sunshine. A young woman enjoys a quiet moment on the terrace
This acrylic painting is 8 x 8 inches and you can see it at http://www.etsy.com/listing/79740913/luxembourg-gardens-paris-original

Olive trees, Villeneuve near Avignon

Finally, my painting of olive trees near Avignon is completed! It's taken a while to get back to this painting, and I didn't want to overdo the leaves. This does capture the look of the scene, and its general peacefulness.

Tuileries Gardens, Paris

An early springtime view of the avenue of trees in the Tuileries Gardens, Paris. This was a mild, gentle day, and the contrast between the cast shadows and the golden sunlit areas was lovely. This was before the remodelling of the gardens, and I'm not sure if this scene looks the same now.
This acrylic painting (16 x 16) is available in my etsy shop, at:

Path

An abstract painting based on one of the footpaths at the Attenborough Nature Reserve, a favourite walk. This is a little tunnel made of trunks and branches of willow saplings curved together, and I liked the spiralling pattern of the shadows. I was thinking of the colours of Paul Nash landscapes, greys and dull greens, with a touch of ultramarine and magenta.
This is available at my etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/listing/67182255/path-original-acrylic-painting-8x10

Work in progress - orchard

My current painting - a view of the orchard at the bottom of the kitchen garden at Chatsworth. I'll be adding it to my etsy shop soon but there are changes to be made to the shadows and background yet. This was a lovely autumn day. No apples are visible - they'd been picked (a couple by us on earlier visits). These little trees are all old types of apple trees. This is also a good place to look for shaggy inkcap toadstools. (This painting is now sold.) It can be seen at
